During pneumatic discharge, compressed air can heat up substantially — and bulk materials, particularly food-grade products on EUT variants, may be sensitive to elevated temperatures. A thermometer gives both the driver and the service technician an immediate, objective reading rather than relying on guesswork.
On the EUT (horizontal silo trailer with fully pneumatic discharge), monitoring discharge air and material temperature helps maintain conditions appropriate for the product being carried and protects elastomer seals from heat-related deterioration. On the KIP (tipping silo), temperature monitoring supports safe pressure-assisted discharge enhanced by tank inclination. The stainless steel housing makes the thermometer suitable for hygiene-sensitive environments — consistent with the food-grade character of Feldbinder trailers.

- Load protection — food-grade bulk materials on EUT trailers (flour, sugar, starch) can be temperature-sensitive. A live reading allows the operator to act before overheated discharge air affects the product.
- Seal longevity — elastomer seals (hatch seals, cap seals, flange joint seals) age faster at elevated temperatures. Thermal monitoring indirectly protects these components.
- Compressor diagnostics — an unusually high discharge air temperature may indicate a problem with the compression system; the thermometer provides the first indicator.
For these reasons, a stainless steel thermometer is treated as a standard monitoring instrument — selected to match the typical working temperatures of the trailer and its intended bulk material.
Common Issues
- Undetected high temperature — without a thermometer, overheating of discharge air or bulk material is easily missed, potentially damaging the load and accelerating seal wear.
- Wrong range selected — a 0–200°C thermometer may be insufficient at higher operating temperatures; a 0–250°C unit is the appropriate choice in those cases.
- Housing corrosion — in road operating conditions; a stainless steel housing minimises this risk.
- Poor readability — can occur with the 63 mm dial; the 100 mm dial offers significantly better legibility.
