GBS hose clamps and shell-type couplings for Feldbinder silo trailers — PHS Magnum parts stock

Introduction

The hose clamp is a seemingly minor component, yet it is critical to the integrity of the entire discharge line on a Feldbinder silo trailer. It is what holds the hose onto the Storz connector spigot under working pressure — and a leak at that point means material loss, reduced discharge performance, and the risk of dust release. On horizontal non-tipping trailers of the EUT series, clamps secure transport and compressor hoses; on tipping silo trailers of the KIP (Kippsilo) series — where pressurised unloading takes place with the tank raised hydraulically — selecting a fastening of the correct strength is even more important.

From a Feldbinder service perspective, three decisions matter: the type of fastening (quick-fit GBS clamps for spigot connectors, or the more secure shell couplings for plain connectors), the material grade (galvanised W1 for standard applications, stainless and acid-resistant W2/W4 for food-grade EUT 316L variants), and the size matched to the hose diameter. PHS Magnum holds the full range — from stock GBS clamps through to shell couplings and worm-drive clamps available on direct delivery.

Sizes and types

  • GBS: 17 mm to 130 mm, 18 mm band, DIN 3017 — galvanised W1 (stock), stainless and acid-resistant W2/W4 (direct delivery).
  • Shell couplings: 75x10 for DN75 in regular stock; full range of sizes and forms (aluminium, stainless 75x8) on order.
  • Double-bolt and worm-drive clamps: full range for auxiliary lines.

GBS clamp size is selected to match the outside diameter of the hose pushed onto the Storz suction connector spigot. Typical hose diameters with corresponding Storz connector sizes for GBS-clamped assemblies:

Compatibility with Feldbinder silo trailers (EUT/KIP)

  • EUT (horizontal, non-tipping) — GBS clamps for transport and compressor hoses mounted on Storz spigots; food-grade 316L stainless steel variants require stainless or acid-resistant grades (W2/W4) and stainless shell couplings.
  • KIP (Kippsilo, tipping) — for pressurised unloading with the tank raised hydraulically, shell couplings (DIN 2817) are recommended as the higher-reliability fastening.

Fastening type is selected according to the Storz connector type and hose diameter on the specific trailer — when ordering, please provide the DN size and assembly method. Full catalogue: spare parts.

Common issues on Feldbinder silo trailers

From our Feldbinder silo trailer service experience, the most frequently recurring problems with hose clamps are:

  • Corrosion of galvanised clamps (W1) during washing and transport of moist materials — switching to stainless (W2/W4) resolves the issue; mandatory on food-grade EUT 316L trailers.
  • Stripped GBS screw thread from over-tightening — requires replacement of the entire clamp; damaged screws are not repaired.
  • Hose deformation under an undersized clamp — restricts bore and flow; specifying an 18 mm band to DIN 3017 protects the hose wall.
  • Loose shell-coupling nuts after KIP pressure cycles — torque should be checked at every service; replacement bolt and nut sets are supplied as a kit.
  • Wrong size after hose replacement — when the hose type or diameter changes, the clamp must be re-selected accordingly.

Service life figures are not quoted without evidence — longevity depends on the medium, frequency of assembly/disassembly, and operating conditions. Clamp replacement is carried out as part of our silo trailer service.

Frequently Asked Questions

We stock the full range of popular GBS clamps for industrial and compressor hoses. Standard grade: fully galvanised steel (W1), hex-head screw class 8.8, band width 18 mm, to DIN 3017, sizes from 17 mm upwards. The complete GBS range in stainless (W2) and acid-resistant stainless (W4) is available on direct delivery — required for food-grade Feldbinder EUT trailers built from 316L stainless steel.

A set for one hose end (one connector) comprises two shell halves, four mounting bolts, and four nuts. Material: German aluminium, to DIN 2817 and DIN 2826. The standard size for DN75 hose — 75x10 — is held in stock. All other sizes and forms in aluminium, plus stainless steel (size 75x8), are available on next-day direct delivery.

GBS clamps grip a hose pushed onto a Storz suction connector spigot — quick to fit, 18 mm band to DIN 3017. Shell couplings secure a plain connector by bolting two halves together (DIN 2817) — more reliable at higher pressures, such as during pressurised unloading on a KIP. The choice depends on the Storz connector type and the assembly practice for the specific Feldbinder trailer.

Yes — double-bolt clamps and worm-drive clamps in the full size range, for every industrial and automotive line: air lines, water lines, and auxiliary hoses at the chassis and compressor of the Feldbinder silo trailer.

For food-grade Feldbinder EUT trailers built from 316L stainless steel, we recommend GBS clamps in stainless or acid-resistant stainless (W2, W4) and stainless shell couplings — eliminating any risk of corrosion or product contamination that can arise with standard galvanised steel (W1).
