Introduction
In Feldbinder silo trailers — both the fixed-axle EUT line and the tipping KIP silo — the discharge installation and pressure pipework consist of numerous flanged connections, each sealed by a flange gasket. It may seem like a minor component, but the integrity of the entire pneumatic system depends on it. A leaking flanged joint means lost pressure during discharge and, in the worst case, material escaping as dust.
On the EUT, where unloading is purely pneumatic, the tightness of every flanged connection has a direct bearing on discharge time and efficiency. On the KIP, where the pneumatic system works alongside hydraulic tipping of the tank to 45–50°, the system operates under working pressure throughout the discharge cycle, and any flange leak reduces throughput. For this reason, selecting the correct gasket — the right DN size and the right compound for the medium — is a routine maintenance decision, not simply a response to a breakdown.

Materials and Grades
We supply a full range of flange and interflanged gaskets for all connection types, covering AKO, Prokosch, Spitzer and Feldbinder systems in all standard sizes.

EPDM offers excellent resistance to ageing and water vapour, making it the preferred choice for food-grade EUT applications (flour, sugar, starch). NBR is the classic elastomer for industrial service. Elapac is specified where a higher-performance flanged seal is required.
Sizes and Types
Flange gaskets are available in all standard silo trailer bore sizes:
- DN80
- DN100
- DN150
- DN200
These are the diameters most frequently encountered in Feldbinder discharge installations. Other sizes, alternative compounds and non-standard gaskets can be sourced through direct supply.
Compatibility with Feldbinder Silo Trailers (EUT/KIP)
- EUT (horizontal, fixed silo trailer) — flange gaskets are used at connections throughout the pneumatic discharge installation. White EPDM is standard for food-grade variants.
- KIP (Kippsilo, tipping silo trailer) — the same mounting positions apply, plus the pressure pipework that assists discharge when the tank is tipped. Material selection depends on the medium carried.
Gaskets are matched to the Feldbinder system as well as to AKO/Prokosch fittings, which are commonly found on components installed on this brand of trailer. If you are unsure of the size or system, we can identify the correct gasket from the flange diameter and bolt-hole pitch.
Role in the Discharge Cycle
The flange gasket is the least expensive component in the entire discharge assembly — and one of the most common sources of leaks. This is because a silo trailer has many flanged connections, each of which may be broken and re-assembled during servicing. In Feldbinder maintenance practice, flange gaskets are found at several typical locations:
- Discharge installation connections — between sections of pipework routing material to the outlet couplings.
- Valve and fitting flanges — butterfly valves, pressure valves, sight glasses and other components bolted to flanged spigots.
- Pressure pipework — particularly critical on the KIP, where discharge takes place with the tank tipped under working pressure.
At every one of these points, the choice of compound (white/black EPDM, NBR, Elapac) and size (DN80–DN200) determines whether the joint holds. This is why we fit a new gasket every time a flange is broken — a practice that eliminates the most common cause of mysterious pressure drops during discharge.
Common Problems
From Feldbinder silo trailer service experience:
- Hardening and cracking — an old, dried-out gasket loses elasticity and fails to seal the joint. Replace at each flange disassembly.
- Wrong compound — fitting an industrial gasket (black NBR/EPDM) in a food-grade circuit is not acceptable; white food-grade EPDM must be used for food products.
- Re-use of a compressed gasket — a gasket that has been torqued down will not re-seal once disturbed; always fit a new one when reassembling a flange.
- Wrong DN size — a gasket with an incorrect bore either fails to seat properly or protrudes into the pipe bore.
We do not prescribe fixed replacement intervals for flange gaskets — they are replaced at every flange disassembly, on any sign of leakage, and during scheduled inspections.

Our flange gasket stock is held at our warehouse in Chorula near Opole (4 km from the A4 motorway, approximately 180 km from the German border). Common sizes DN80–DN200 in EPDM and NBR are typically available ex-stock. Non-standard items and alternative compounds are sourced through direct supply.
