Introduction
Butterfly valves — also called disc valves — shut off and regulate material flow in the discharge pipework of Feldbinder silo trailers. On the horizontal, non-tipping EUT, the butterfly valve controls the flow of granulate or bulk material during pneumatic discharge, opening and closing the pipe cross-section with a single turn of the disc. On the tipping-silo KIP, where discharge is assisted by hydraulic tipping of the tank, the butterfly valve performs the same shut-off function under working pressure while the pipework angle changes.
What sets Ebro valves apart is a clear split into two material versions, selected according to the medium being transported. The black-seal version is intended for non-food applications — cement, lime, sand, gravel — where wear resistance is the key requirement. The white-seal version is prepared for PVC granulates and food-grade products, with a V4A stainless-steel disc and shaft. This distinction has a direct bearing on Feldbinder trailer configuration: a silo trailer used for food transport must have the entire material path in a hygienic specification, including the butterfly valve. In practice at PHS Magnum this is a standard verification point — when refurbishing a Feldbinder silo trailer we check that the valve version fitted matches the trailer’s declared application.
We hold a stock of Ebro butterfly valves and Perbunan seals at our facility in Chorula near Opole.
Specification and Materials
Ebro butterfly valves available in two material versions:
| Feature | Black seal | White seal |
|---|---|---|
| Application | cement, lime, sand, gravel, non-food bulk | PVC granulates, food-grade products |
| Body | aluminium | aluminium |
| Disc | C35 steel | V4A stainless steel |
| Shaft | stainless steel | V4A stainless steel |
| Seal | black Perbunan | white Perbunan |
| Working pressure | 4 bar | 4 bar |
Valves are available in a range of body configurations — selection matched to the specific pipework on the Feldbinder silo trailer.
Replacement Seals for Ebro Valves
Perbunan seals are supplied separately for every Ebro valve size:
| Seal | Application |
|---|---|
| White Perbunan | PVC granulates, food-grade products |
| Black Perbunan | non-food bulk materials |
Sizes and Types
Standard sizes available ex-stock:
- DN80
- DN100
- DN150
- DN200
Valves are available in a range of body configurations — when ordering, please specify the mounting type and disc configuration for your Feldbinder silo trailer. In practice it is the body design, not just the nominal diameter, that determines whether a valve fits the pipework: the same DN100 may come in different flange and connection configurations. If you are unsure of the exact type, the most reliable approach is to compare against the valve removed from the trailer, or to have the connection measured during a service visit at our workshop.
Compatibility with Feldbinder Silo Trailers (EUT/KIP)
- EUT — the butterfly valve shuts off and regulates material flow during pneumatic discharge from the horizontal, non-tipping tank. For food transport, the white-seal, V4A disc version is selected; for cement and aggregates, the black-seal version applies.
- KIP — on the tipping silo, the butterfly valve operates under pressure when the tank is raised; the same selection logic (black/white) applies depending on the medium being transported.
Valve selection is based on pipe diameter (DN80–DN200) and body configuration, not on the Feldbinder trailer type.
Common Issues in Feldbinder Silo Trailers
From our service experience with Feldbinder silo trailers:
- Disc leaking in the closed position — typically caused by a worn or hardened Perbunan seal; replacing the seal alone restores a tight shut-off.
- Shaft seizure — contamination from bulk material or corrosion at the shaft-to-body interface; impairs disc rotation.
- Incorrect material version — a black-seal valve fitted to a food-grade trailer (or vice versa) is a configuration error; during refurbishment we verify that the valve version matches the trailer’s intended use.
- Seal wear from abrasive materials — when transporting sand or gravel, the Perbunan seal wears more quickly; seal replacement becomes part of the routine service interval.
On Feldbinder silo trailers, where the specification permits, components in contact with food-grade media are specified in hygienic execution (V4A disc and shaft, white seal). We confirm the correct material selection for each specific valve model and trailer application.
A frequently overlooked issue is mixing seal versions. White and black Perbunan seals differ not only in colour but in application: white for PVC granulates and food-grade products, black for non-food media. Fitting a black seal in a valve on a trailer used for food transport compromises the hygiene of the entire material path, even if the valve is mechanically sound. When ordering seals, please specify the version consistent with the trailer’s application — during refurbishment we verify this as a matter of course.
Availability and Delivery
We stock Ebro butterfly valves and Perbunan seals at our facility in Chorula near Opole (4 km from the A4 motorway, approximately 180 km from the German border). Standard sizes DN80, DN100, DN150, and DN200 are normally available ex-stock.
Delivery by courier within Poland and the EU; orders can be consolidated with other pipework components. For availability and pricing — ask for a quote. Valve and seal replacement is also carried out as part of PHS Magnum silo trailer service.
