Overview
A check valve ensures that air and bulk material in the pneumatic line of a Feldbinder silo trailer flow in one direction only — and that a pressure drop does not allow them to travel back towards the compressor or along the discharge path. On horizontal EUT semi-trailers, check valves operate within the aeration and pneumatic discharge circuit; on tipping silo semi-trailers of the KIP (Kippsilo) series, where the tank is raised hydraulically and the discharge is pressure-assisted, reliable check valve function is a prerequisite for stable pressure throughout the entire pneumatic circuit.
From a service perspective, the selection of type (straight Europa vs angle Y-type) and material (brass for general use, stainless steel for food-grade EUT 316L) is only part of the picture. The ability to repair rather than replace the entire valve is equally important. That is why PHS Magnum holds complete repair kits and individual components for angle check valves. - Europa type (straight): brass + NBR, up to 100°C.
- Y-type (angle): brass or stainless steel + silicone seal.
- Repair kits: available in every size (1" to 3"), with the option to purchase individual components (spring, disc, cap).
Compatibility with Feldbinder Silo Trailers (EUT/KIP)
- EUT (horizontal, non-tipping) — check valves in the aeration and pneumatic discharge circuit; for food-grade 316L stainless steel versions we recommend stainless construction with a silicone seal.
- KIP (Kippsilo, tipping) — during pressure-assisted discharge with a hydraulically raised tank, a functioning check valve prevents pressure reversal; valve selection accounts for the appropriate temperature range and material.
Size and thread are matched to the fittings of the specific trailer within the DN25–DN80 (1"–3") range; please provide the size of the currently fitted valve when ordering. Full catalogue: spare parts.
Common Check Valve Faults on Feldbinder Silo Trailers
Based on field service experience with Feldbinder silo trailers, the most frequent check valve failures are:
- Reverse flow of air or material at closure — typically caused by a worn disc seal (silicone) or a fatigued spring; solution: repair kit rather than full valve replacement.
- Disc sticking due to deposits or corrosion — cleaning and disc replacement; in humid media, switching to stainless steel construction is advisable.
- Operation outside the temperature range — the Europa type is rated to max. 100°C; exceeding this shortens the service life of the NBR seal.
- Corrosion of the brass body when handling aggressive media — for food-grade EUT 316L applications, a stainless steel body is recommended.
- Leakage at the cap — replace the brass cap using the repair kit.
We do not quote arbitrary service life figures — replacement intervals depend on the conveyed medium, operating pressure and duty cycle. Diagnosis and replacement are carried out as part of our silo trailer service.
