Efficient discharge from a Feldbinder silo trailer depends not only on permanently installed components, but also on the service tools that drivers and maintenance staff use every day. Two of these are indispensable for anyone operating Feldbinder silos: a rubber mallet for tapping the tank, and a Storz coupling spanner.
On the EUT range, where discharge is exclusively pneumatic, bulk material that has caked or bridged against the walls of the horizontal tank can significantly slow emptying. Gentle tapping of the tank walls with a rubber mallet helps dislodge the product and restore flow towards the discharge outlets — without any risk of damaging the lining or weld seams, which is particularly critical on food-grade versions. On the KIP, where the tank also tilts hydraulically, tapping similarly helps with materials that have poor flow characteristics even when the tank is raised.

Role in Day-to-Day Operation
The mallet and Storz spanner are “driver on the road” tools — used at every discharge, not just in the workshop. Their value is most apparent in two situations:
- Material that won’t flow — on the EUT, where the tank does not tilt and discharge relies entirely on pneumatics, caked or bridged product can halt emptying altogether. Gentle tapping of the walls with the rubber mallet restores flow without damaging the lining or welds. The white natural rubber head leaves no marks on the surface — on food-grade trailers this is a direct hygiene concern.
- A secure coupling connection — the Storz spanner lets you tighten or disconnect couplings properly, without resorting to improvised tools that can damage the lugs. The single-sided version with an antistatic insulated handle is more comfortable for intensive use; the double-sided version covers two lug sizes.
Both tools are inexpensive and virtually indestructible, yet their absence or the wrong choice can genuinely extend discharge time and damage costlier components. That is why we keep them in permanent stock alongside the rest of our Storz parts range.
Common Problems
- Tapping with a metal tool — damages the tank lining and welds; always use a rubber mallet, especially on food-grade trailers.
- Worn mallet head — crumbling rubber loses effectiveness and may mark surfaces; replace the mallet.
- Wrong Storz spanner — attempting to disconnect a coupling with an unsuitable tool damages the lug seats; a universal A/B/C spanner resolves this.
- No insulated handle — for intensive service work, the single-sided version with an antistatic handle is both more comfortable and safer.
